Department of Transportation (DOT) Hazmat enforcement can be tough, with fines up tp $50,000. DOT compliance starts with the right training as DOT 49 CFR, Part 172, Subpart H, requires that all hazmat employees who directly affect hazardous materials transportation safety be trained within 90 days of hire. Other common issues relate to incorrect shipping and access to an emergency response telephone number in the event of an emergency involving the hazardous material.
