Onsite Environmental Audits

The EPA offers several major incentives for companies to voluntarily comply with federal environmental laws and regulations, and KPA can help you to take advantage of these by conducting an environmental audit of your facility, which includes discovery, disclosure, correction, and prevention of EPA, health, and other environmental violations. Our engineers have extensive training in identifying regulatory violations, high-risk practices, and environmental concerns.  They can also conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs).

How it works

A KPA engineer spends about 90 minutes visiting all areas of your facility and checking its compliance status with respect to OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulations. This can be done quarterly, biannually, or annually. The engineer documents each issue with a written description, photo, and regulatory reference, and then prioritizes the issue and assigns it to a manager for resolution. Each issue is then discussed at a Safety Committee Meeting and becomes your responsibility to track and manage.

Environmental Program Development and EPA Licensing and Permitting

The EPA develops local, regional, and national priorities to focus on significant environmental risks and noncompliance patterns. While it’s your responsibility to make sure your facility complies with them, KPA can review and revise your existing programs or write new custom programs to help ensure your compliance, plus obtain permits and licenses for a variety of compliance issues/regulations.

KPA also understands that written plans, licenses, and permits are only half the equation; the other half is implementation. Our written work integrates seamlessly into your management practices to help ensure a high-productivity environment. You’ll always find your written environmental documentation organized in KPA’s signature yellow box, as well as in the myKPAonline system. That way, if an EPA inspector visits your facility, you’ll know exactly where to find your compliance records.

  • Summary of required actions and suggestions for compliance
  • Employee training on mandated use, management, and storage of oil
  • Development of required recordkeeping
  • Program certification

  • Updated hazardous materials inventory (annually)
  • Site map with location of hazardous materials

Pollution Prevention and Waste Reduction

Are you sure your waste is properly classified? This matters for two reasons: First, you’re responsible for that waste until it disappears from the planet, so you want to make you’re your employees are disposing of it properly. Second, you could be paying more for waste hauling than you need to. Any waste that’s not properly classified may get hauled away as hazardous waste, the most expensive waste classification to dispose of.

KPA can help you reduce your waste, both to decrease your cradle-to-grave liability for it and to minimize your waste hauling costs. Because our engineers work with more than 4,000 clients across the country, they know where you can gain the most benefit by reducing your waste and what steps you need to take to improve EPA compliance.

Tank Management

Do you have underground storage tanks and/or above-ground storage tanks? What would you do if one of them leaked? In 1998, the EPA established guidelines for existing tank installations. If you’re not compliant with those regulations -- or don’t even know what they are – KPA can help. We can develop a specific release response plan, train your employees on it, and assist with permitting and reporting requirements.
