KPA Safety Corner - An Electrifying Situation

Spend five minutes and take the following test. Walk around your dealership and count the number of extension cords being used in place of permanent electrical wiring. Here are a couple of hints. Check the fans and heaters in the service and parts departments. Look at the ceiling support superstructure (a common place to snake cords). Check the tool room and, specifically, the machines that use electricity. Finally, head out to the detail area and check that vacuum cleaner. Okay, you are back, and probably surprised. Not only is your dealership in violation of the Uniform Fire Code, but there is a significant fire risk you no doubt do not want. And, since you are looking at extension cords, make sure the ones that are being properly used – that is, as a temporary power connection - are in good shape and free of cuts or splices.
